The staff at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital understands the increasing importance of breast health. In the U.S., breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death in women over age 40. And one in eight women in the U.S. develops some form of breast cancer over their lifetime.

The Breast Care Program at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital (BMH) exemplifies BMH’s commitment to our patients’ health throughout the continuum—from advanced diagnostics and screening tools to genetic testing and the latest surgical techniques.

State-of-the-art Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment

The Breast Care Program at BMH offers state-of-the-art screening and diagnostic imaging services including digital mammography, ultrasound, stereotactic breast biopsy, sentinel lymph node biopsies, and cyst aspiration. Patients who require treatment will find that BMH offers modern surgical suites staffed by highly-trained and committed medical professionals offering a full range of breast surgical procedures. For patients who require radiation treatment, we partner with Cheshire Medical Center, a Dartmouth Health facility located in Keene, NH.

Nurse Navigation Cancer Risk and Genetics

For women at high-risk for breast cancer, BMH’s Cancer Risk & Genetic Risk Program was established to evaluate, educate and closely monitor individuals at high risk for developing cancer often due to their medical and/or family history. Our high-risk team works closely with each patient to develop personalized health plans and education about individual risk factors. The Breast Care Program at BMH also has a nurse navigator who helps patients:

  • make consultation appointments
  • establish individualized recommendations for screenings, risk reduction activities, medications, and medical follow-up
  • connect with cancer prevention resources involving nutrition education, tobacco cessation, and overall health enhancement

“We are so proud of The Breast Care Program at BMH. It is a vital healthcare resource for our rural community that provides patients with advanced medical resources throughout the continuum—from screening and diagnostics, to genetic testing and treatment—to equally important support, education, and guidance” — Chris Dougherty, BMH President & CEO
